After several visits to New York I’ve learned that choosing a hotel in a central location is essential to making the most of your time in the city that never sleeps. Moxy Times Square New York is within walking distance of many of New York’s top attractions including Times Square, Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building and Penn Station, meaning it is easily accessible by train from the airport too.
Moxy offers a modern hotel in the heart of one of the busiest cities in the world but my room was whisper quiet, enabling me to restfully recharge after a busy day. The hotel offers excellent accessible accommodation so I had the opportunity to review an ADA roll-in shower room during my stay.

Moxy Times Square New York review
Don’t be put off by the inclusion of “Times Square” in the hotel’s name. Moxy is close to the popular spot but it is also far enough away from the craziness to be a great choice for visitors not keen on the neon lights.

A warm welcome greets travellers arriving at Moxy Times Square with a modern lobby area and friendly staff ready to assist. Once checked in, elevators provide access to guest rooms, the restaurant and the jewel in the hotel’s crown, its rooftop bar, Magic Hour.

Hotel rooms in New York are traditionally compact in size so I was especially impressed to find a spacious room (by New York’s standards) with wide entry doorways and good accessibility. The non-carpeted floor makes for easier manoeuvering for wheelchair users or those using a walking frame and gives the room a fresh appearance.

Furniture is kept to a minimum which ensures that either side of the bed is accessible for transferring from a wheelchair, but please note there is no clearance for a guest to use a hoist or hoyer lift.
Light switches, air conditioning controls and hanging pegs are at a lowered height for ease of access.
Bedroom facts – room entry door 90cm (35.5in) and bed height 63cm (24in).

The adjoining accessible bathroom offers a shower bench, hand-held shower, as well as the option of an overhead shower head.

Shower products are within reach when seated on the bench and drainage is excellent.

Grab rails are provided beside the toilet and towels are in a lowered position.
Bathroom facts – entry door 81cm (32in), height of shower bench 44.5cm (17.5in), toilet height to pan 41cm (16in) and to toilet seat 44cm (17.5in)

The wash basin stand with lever taps is located in the main room keeping the bathroom clutter free.
Looking for a mirror for any fashion indulgences? Yep, Moxy thought of that and put a full length mirror in the room to make sure you can put your best fashion foot forward as you step out in uber-chic New York.
The only thing missing from the room for me was a mini-fridge. Visiting during a heatwave made me a thirsty gal but I solved this by filling up a couple of ice buckets with ice and popping them in the wash basin as my fridge alternative.
Take a tour of the room with me below.

Moxy Times Square guests have the privilege of having easy access to Magic Hour, New York City’s largest all-season hotel rooftop bar and lounge.

Featuring an “urban amusement park” concept which changes with the season and incredible city views this is a hot spot in town.

At the time of my visit there was a floral carousel which was a beautiful Instagram-worthy installation but for me, the view of The Empire State Building can’t be upstaged.
The New York landmark glistens among the New York skyline and is clearly visible from Moxy Times Square’s Magic Hour bar and lounge.
Moxy Times Square is within easy reach of a plethora of restaurants and take away dining options, but if you prefer to stay in, the hotel has an onsite restaurant. There’s even a barber shop for any maintenance needed before you head out for the night. After all, if you are staying in fashion-forward New York, you need to look your best.

With only an overnight stay in New York and two days for exploring, I was grateful Moxy Times Square offered a location where I could walk to just about everything on my must-visit list. I managed to fit in a walk in Central Park, a visit to Summit One Vanderbilt, The Edge, The Vessel and a walk along the High Line. I also popped into Chelsea Market, Grand Central Terminal and did some wishful window gazing on Fifth Avenue. My time in New York coincided with a heatwave so I found that temperatures of 38 degrees (100F) and high humidity, slowed me down.
Buses in New York are accessible or the subways are close to the hotel for those preferring not to walk/wheel around the city. Just check which subway stops are accessible if you are travelling with a wheelchair or pram.
This isn’t our first Moxy rodeo, we had a wonderful time at Moxy Sydney Airport Hotel.
My stay at Moxy Times Square New York was hosted but as always, my opinions are my own and I hope the photos and video assist you in deciding if this hotel will suit your needs.
