Our visit to Gosford Regional Library coincided with its grand opening. The new four level state of the art library is a real gift to the local community and those of us happy to drive to visit. Offering multi-use spaces including our favourite, the Makerspace, we think the Gosford Regional Library is worthy of a review.

Gosford Regional Library
Gosford Regional Library has been designed and built with accessibility top of mind and even has a Changing Places style of bathroom with adult-sized change bed, hoist and shower. Of course the library is filled with all manner of books but this is no traditional library. Central Coast Council has recognised the opportunity to provide the community with hands-on learning opportunities and a space to explore their creativity.

For those wanting to peruse the books or magazines that line the shelves, there is a beautiful light-filled area to sit and read or enjoy the views.

Computers proved popular on opening day with lots of the children making a beeline for technology over the books.

Everything about the library is impressive but I was particularly intrigued by the Makerspace. The program offered in this space has been developed in partnership with the University of Newcastle to inspire exploration, creativity, idea sharing and self-directed learning.

On opening day the Makerspace area was only open for viewing but we were so impressed that a week later Braeden and his support worker took a day trip back to the library to use the equipment. Braeden is now a member of Gosford Regional Library and will enjoy having the opportunity to return to learn and create more in the future.
The space is equipped with 3D printing machines, sewing and Cricut machines, badge makers and much more. Visitors need to complete a short induction before using the equipment and then with the assistance of staff have the chance to learn how to use it.

Braeden loved coming home with the projects he made on the Cricut and will definitely return to give the 3D printers a whirl.

The spaces have been designed to be accessible to all with height adjustable tables.

Until the end of the year the Makerspace is free and open Monday-Thursday 10-3pm with no bookings required.

The library even has a sound recording studio with equipment available to hire.

With no talents worthy of sharing in this space we simply admired it as an option for those that are more talented.
Along with all the services we spotted during our visit we are pleased to also share other accessibility facilities available at Gosford Regional Library including –

On the ground level of the library there is a Changing Places style of bathroom with adult-size change bed, ceiling hoist, shower with bench seat and toilet with privacy screen.
Braeden and his support worker combined their day trip to Gosford Regional Library with ice skating at Erina Ice Arena where wheelchairs are allowed on the ice and the Companion Card is accepted. It was a winner of a day in both Braeden and his support worker’s opinion.
