Qantas has long provided a concession fare on Australian domestic flights to increase the support for people living with a disability to assist with their travel and for that of their carers. The Qantas Carer Concession Card is provided to people with significant support requirements who, due to physical, sensory, intellectual and cognitive disabilities need to fly with the assistance of a support worker, family member or carer. The big news is that the Qantas Carer Concession Card program has now been extended to include international airfares. This is something the disability community has been requesting for years so when I heard about this I couldn’t wait to share it.

Qantas carer concession fare – international & domestic discounts
The expansion by Qantas of the Carer Concession Fare is the biggest news in travel for the disability community for years and a positive sign that there is greater recognition from an airline that there is an increased cost for some people with a disability to access travel.

Our family has taken advantage of the Qantas Carer Concession fare domestically finding it has significantly assisted our travel budget to stretch further. From 28 January 2025, card holders and their carer will receive 30 per cent off all domestic and regional base fares (excludes carrier charges, fees and taxes) across all cabins (yes, that means business class) including fares on sale.
As I mentioned above, for the first time international base fares (excludes carrier charges, fees and taxes) departing Australia (including those on sale) will be discounted by 10% for business, premium economy and economy class.
For the first time, international base fares (excludes carrier charges, fees and taxes) departing Australia including those on sale, will be discounted by ten per cent for Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins. This discount applies to the person living with disability AND their carer.

To take advantage of the Qantas Carer Concession fare you need to obtain a Qantas Carer Concession Card from People With Disability Australia (PWDA). Please allow time for this process as you need to complete the form and have it signed by a health professional or in the case of a child their teacher is able to sign the form. You will also need to provide a photo. The Qantas Carer Concession card is an ID card for the purposes of receiving the discounts and costs (at the time of writing) $49.50.
Once you have the card you need to book the carers fares via the Qantas Specific Assistance team on 1800 177 474. You will need to quote the Qantas Carer Concession Card number to confirm eligibility.
