Lake Mac Holiday Parks continue to lead the way when it comes to accessibility and inclusivity. We’ve been fortunate to stay at the Swansea and Belmont parks over the years and on each visit we find something new to rave about. On a recent visit we had the opportunity to check out the Lake Mac accessible safari tents at the Swansea Holiday Park.
As with all the accessible accommodation at the Lake Mac Holiday Parks, there has been much thought put into the location and facilities of the accessible safari tents. Although we were not staying the night I couldn’t wait to gather information to share with you about this fun accessible accommodation option.
Accessible Safari Tents – Lake Mac Holiday Park Swansea
Lake Macquarie is located on the East Coast of New South Wales, about 90 minutes drive from Sydney. It’s the perfect spot for a weekend break or a place to break up a drive down the coast.
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time exploring Lake Macquarie on previous visits, spending relaxing days at the beach, exploring local accessible walks and even checking out the art at MAC – Museum of Art and Culture. Lake Macquarie has a variety of accessible activities but we all know that none of that matters without good accessible accommodation.

The accessible safari tents are new since our last stay at Swansea and we were immediately pleased to see two accessible safari tents located side-by-side. It’s the perfect set-up for families or friends looking to travel together but not wanting to be together day and night.
A central ramp between the accommodation provides easy access to the tents.

Once inside there’s a spacious layout including lounge, dining table with seating, a kitchen and bedding to sleep up to four people including a queen bed and bunk beds.
Bedroom facts – main entry door to tent 95cm, bed height 64cm with 8cm clearance underneath.

There’s a plethora of activities to keep families busy around the park but when night falls the accessible safari tents do have a television and lounge area for relaxing.

A well-equipped kitchen makes it easy to self-cater but if you prefer alfresco cooking and dining there’s a barbecue on the accessible balcony with table setting.

Good circulation space is offered on the balcony and step-free entry makes access to the tent a breeze.

The spacious accessible bathroom has a shower bench, height adjustable shower wand, grab rails throughout and lever taps.

Bathroom facts – 92cm wide entry door to bathroom, toilet height to pan 44cm and height to toilet seat 46.7cm, height of shower bench 48.5cm.
Accessible parking is adjacent to the tents with a level pathway leading to the ramp access.

Right next door to the accessible tents there is a small sensory space called the Peace Pod. This quiet space has comfy seating, quiet activities and fidgets.

It’s fantastic to have such accessible accommodation but it’s even better that the park’s facilities are also so inclusive including four pool wheelchairs available for use in either the pool, which offers ramp access, or the splash park.

And the shiny new addition to the Lake Mac Swansea Holiday Park is a sensory van named the Silver Sanctuary, which was designed in consultation with Dr Bliss Cavanagh of Creative Sensory Spaces.

Holiday parks in peak season are busy and often noisy, so in recognition of this, Lake Mac Swansea has provided a space for those that might need a little time out from the sensory overload.

I had the opportunity to sit in one of the bean bags and relax for a short while and the space is incredibly relaxing.

Even our excitable guy Braeden was calmed by the soothing environment.
The van is also wheelchair accessible with a ramp leading to the entry door but the van is so new the ramp was still under construction when we visited.
We love that the team at Lake Mac Holiday Parks continue to strive for the best in accessibility and inclusivity so please know this is not a sponsored post. We just love sharing the good news that some properties are doing way more than the bare minimum when it comes to inclusion.
Lake Mac Holiday Park Swansea offers other accessible options including –

Swansea Lakeside accessible cabin

Swansea Gardenside Pool View accessible cabin

And make sure to check out lovely accessible walk via the Swansea Foreshore Boardwalk which is located just beside the holiday park.

If none of these accommodation options suit your access needs, then it might be worth checking out Belmont Lakeside Holiday Park.
