On a recent trip to Melbourne I flew with Qantas and had the opportunity to check out the Changing Places bathroom that is located opposite the Qantas Lounge Precinct in the domestic terminal. Signage is clear so it’s easy to find. Anyone that’s been following our website for a while will know that I am a keen advocate for Changing Places bathrooms. The facilities ensure that many people with a disability can get out into the community or travel with greater comfort and ease.

Melbourne Domestic Airport – Changing Places bathroom Qantas Terminal
It’s great to see more Changing Places bathrooms available at airports before and after security. As planes do not have bathroom facilities equipped with a hoist it is important that these facilities are included in building upgrades for travellers.

The Changing Places bathroom at Melbourne Airport Qantas Domestic Terminal is located just past security and opposite the Qantas Lounge Precinct. The bathroom is not locked, with the automatic door opened by pressing the large green button at the door. Once inside, it’s important to remember to lock the door using the press button just inside the door.

The spacious bathroom is equipped with a height adjustable adult-size change table, hoist, shower, shower bench and grab rails. The toilet is fitted with a backrest and rails on either side (they can lift out of the way to allow a left or right handed transfer). I’m always happy to see a privacy screen included in the bathrooms to ensure discretion if desired.

Lever taps and a sink with wheelchair access are also included.
Melbourne Airport has many new accessible facilities on the way which I look forward to sharing soon. In the meantime, I am thrilled to see multiple Changing Places bathrooms available at the airport.
I’m hoping that the continued expansion of the Changing Places bathroom network will enable more people living with a disability to travel with greater ease.
If you are travelling with Virgin Australia at Melbourne Airport, you can check out the Changing Places bathroom in that terminal in this review.Â
If you are arriving into Sydney Domestic Terminal there is a Changing Places bathroom near the baggage carousel and you can read about that here.
