All 4 All Terrain Tours Freycinet review

On our arrival in Coles Bay, Tasmania we saw a row of all terrain buggies lined up advertising tours. Braeden’s ideal outing is touring in a buggy so we were immediately tempted but we were also short on time. We called the office and found that team at All 4 All Terrain are a flexible bunch and put on a tour slightly later so we could join. Braeden was delighted and we had a fantastic time exploring Freycinet National Park in an accessible way that allowed us to see areas we would never get to with a wheelchair.

We booked on the two hour ATV adventure in a three seater Can-Am Defender which comfortably accommodated Hubby, Braeden and myself. Braeden was super excited about the spontaneous adventure and his smile absolutely melted my heart. It is so wonderful to be able to give him these experiences.

The tours vary in destination so it is important to let the team know if you are visiting with a wheelchair as they will include Cape Tourville which is wheelchair accessible. Our tour started on a track through some typical Australian bush territory filled with towering eucalypt gums.

Although a well graded track, there are humps along the road which, if taken a little faster, are bone jolting. I had to remind Hubby to take them a bit slower. After the fact, I read on the All 4 All Terrain Tour website the wise words, “women may wish to wear a sports bra.” Hmmm, shame I didn’t read that ahead of time. Anyway, we all bounced along the track which delivered us to two incredible stops.

Cape Tourville offers views of Freycinet Peninsula and a glimpse of Wineglass Bay. We visited during daylight savings and were lucky enough to arrive at golden hour which beautifully highlighted the gorgeous coastline.

The Cape Tourville track is step-free and a great accessible stop on the tour.

Although we loved Cape Tourville, it was one we could do ourselves with a car so our second stop was extra special as it was one we wouldn’t have been able to access without the tour.

While at the beach our guide, Will, provided us with a warm drink (tea, coffee or hot chocolate is available) which was very much welcomed as there was a slight chill in the air and we all enjoyed the tasty brownie treat that accompanied it.

Braeden happily chose to stay in the vehicle at this stop so Hubby parked the buggy to ensure he had a good view.

The coastline was the headline attraction of the tour for me. It’s wild, rugged and mostly untouched.

For Braeden to participate in the tour fully we strapped his wheelchair into the back of the Defender with an occy strap that the team at All 4 All Terrain Tours provided. The wheelchair was quite secure and available for our stop at Cape Tourville.

Taking part in the tour did require Braeden to step up into the vehicle and everyone is required to wear a seatbelt and helmet. Braeden isn’t a fan of the helmet but once he gets going the smile and sounds of joy tell us that it is all worthwhile. You also need to hold a drivers license to drive.

While the ride in the buggy and the views it provided were fabulous we also enjoyed having Will as our guide so we could quiz him on the local scenery and the best place in town to grab some takeaway! Local knowledge is always priceless.

If you have access needs I suggest phoning ahead to talk to the team before booking. You can read more about the tours on offer on the All 4 All Terrain Tours website.
