Waikiki Malia was the second of three hotels I stayed at while visiting Waikiki. All three offered a good location with Waikiki Malia close to the high-end shopping district and two blocks back from Waikiki Beach. It is a comfortable mid-range hotel close to many attractions and offers onsite parking which was handy for the days I had a rental vehicle.
Although I stayed in a non-accessible room, I was able to gain access to two accessible rooms for the purposes of review.

Waikiki Malia hotel review
My stay at Waikiki Malia was in a partial ocean view room with two double beds. The light-filled room was bright, fresh and decorated with a nod to its beach location and Hawaiian culture.

While staying at Waikiki Malia I mostly spent my days exploring the greater island of Oahu with my rental car so I didn’t have a lot of time in my room. When I was back at the hotel the room offered all I needed for my stay, including comfortable, though firm, beds, flat screen television and easy access to nearby shopping and dining. A microwave for guest use and laundry facilities were available at the hotel. A self-serve coffee station is available in the lobby each morning for that pick-me-up cuppa before you head out exploring.
I would recommend if you don’t need an interconnecting room to request a room without this feature as I could hear the people next door talking and coughing. As I was out all day this didn’t affect my stay but I think it is worth mentioning, particularly for light sleepers.

Waikiki Malia accessible accommodationÂ
Thanks to the obliging staff at the hotel I had the chance to check out two accessible rooms at Waikiki Malia. One was a twin bedded room with a roll-in shower and the other a king bedded room with bathtub and grab rails.

The king bedded room offers good circulation space on either side of the bed, a 55 inch flat screen television and lowered hanging rail in the wardrobe.

Bedroom facts – entry door 90cm (35.5 inches), bed height 66cm (26 inches) and no under bed clearance.

In the king bedded room there is a small bathtub with grab rails and a shower overhead.

Grab rails also surround the toilet.

A shower bench and hand-held shower wand are fitted in the twin-bedded accessible/ADA room.

Wakiki Malia has a pool and hot tub but guests need to be able to manage the steps to access both as there is no pool seat/hoist for access.

Like all the hotels I stayed at in Waikiki, the Malia offers a hydration station for refilling water bottles. It’s a fantastic way of lessening plastic bottle use and having access to water before and after exploring Waikiki.
Waikiki Malia offers comfortable accommodation and a good Waikiki base if you don’t need a resort with all the bells and whistles. Its location, a couple of blocks back from Kalakaua Avenue, makes it a quieter property than those that face the popular boulevard.
My stay was gifted to me by a writer friend who was unable to make use of her voucher. As always, my opinions are my own.
