Stillwater Noosa – accessible cruise

In my travels I am lucky to meet some incredible humans doing great things in the inclusive tourism space. What earns them the title ‘incredible’? It’s that they don’t think what they are doing is anything special and they are excited to share their accessible offerings. HV Stillwater Noosa is a hybrid-electric vessel designed for comfort and inclusivity. Launching just a month ago, the Stillwater gives travellers of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy a tour of Noosa’s stunning waterways.

Stillwater Noosa offers a relaxing 90 minute cruise of the Noosa River. The vessel is able to accommodate 40 guests, including space for up to 14 wheelchairs making it fantastic for both groups or individuals.

We boarded the Stillwater at the Noosa Marina for a sunset cruise with a purpose-built ramp providing level entry to the vessel.

Once on board guests with a mobility restriction have the option to remain in their wheelchair or scooter or transfer to the comfy lounges on the boat.

Tempting nibbles and a complimentary beverage is offered on boarding, and in my mind it would simply be rude to say no.

I made myself right at home, enjoying the commentary our skipper David provided while we cruised the river. I even learned a thing or two, like that a group of pelicans is called a squadron and a group of stingrays is called a fever. Caught up in the peace and serenity I even spent a little time dreaming about which house I would I buy when I win the lottery, but then heard some of the prices and decided even with a lottery win I might come up short.

Of course, it didn’t take long for me to check out the bathroom, especially when I heard it had been designed to ensure easy access.

I’ve been in many boat bathrooms and this is not only the most accessible but also the fanciest. The Stillwater’s bathroom even has double entry doors.

Nice wide aisles provide ease of access on both sides of the vessel with the seats easily removed to make more space for wheelchair users if needed.

As with most boat trips, there is a steepish ramp to access the wharf. Power wheelchair and scooter users won’t even blink at it. Manual wheelchair users will need a little extra push-power getting back up but we would manage it with Braeden’s wheelchair.

To get onto the boat there is a good sized ramp to bridge the small gap between the wharf and the boat.

HV Stillwater offers a comfortable and pleasurable front row for sunset on the Noosa River. It was the relaxing evening I needed and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

I was hosted for my evening on HV Stillwater but as always, my opinions are my own.
