Jurien Bay is located about two and a half hours drive from Perth but still feels a world away from city life which is exactly what we loved about it. We stayed in a two bedroom accessible holiday unit at Jurien Bay Tourist Park which proved a great base for exploring Sandy Cape, the Pinnacles, Cervantes and Jurien Bay’s attractions.

Jurien Bay Tourist Park review
Our two night stay was made all the more comfortable with a spacious holiday unit with good accessible facilities for our family of four adults. The two bedroom accessible holiday unit offers a wide accessible parking bay beside the ramp entry leading to the sliding glass front door.

We often find cabins or holiday villas have limited lounge space so we were thrilled to find the accessible holiday unit at Jurien Bay Tourist Park offered a lounge which could accommodate Braeden’s lying down to watch television while leaving room for the rest of us to relax too. Effective air conditioning was also welcomed in the heat of the day.
Sliding door entry 90cm.

A king size bed, air conditioner and wardrobe make the master bedroom feel homely and good circulation space ensures there’s plenty of room on one side for transferring from a wheelchair to the bed.

Bedroom facts – entry door 88cm, bed height 64cm and under bed clearance 9cm.

We were comfortable in the second bedroom which offers a king-single bed and bunk beds but as the photo hopefully shows, it is a tight squeeze between the beds with no room for a wheelchair or walker alongside the beds.
Bedroom two facts – entry door 70cm and space between bunks 37cm

A spacious bathroom is equipped with shower bench, height-adjustable shower head, grab rails and lever taps.

All light switches, towel rails and the wash basin are located at a lowered height.
Bathroom facts – toilet height to pan 43cm, toilet height to seat 46cm and shower bench 48.5cm

As I’ve said many times, we appreciate being able to self-cater when travelling so we were happy to have a full-size fridge, dishwasher, microwave and oven. The majority of kitchen equipment and crockery was located at a good height for ease of access.

If self-catering isn’t your idea of a holiday, then there is the Jurien Bay Beach Cafe located not far from the Jurien Bay Tourist Park reception area. The cafe overlooks the beach and is the perfect spot to dine while watching the sunset.

A lovely level paved walkway runs along the front of the restaurant and beachfront.
Jurien Bay beach is an easy walk or wheel from the accessible holiday unit and the best bit is the Sandcruiser beach wheelchair is stored at the Jurien Bay Tourist Park so it’s easy to access the beach any time of the day.

We booked the Sandcruiser for the period of our stay and we were allowed to keep it at our accessible holiday unit which gave us the flexibility to go out with it whenever the mood took us.

We feel the tourist park needs some cut outs to make getting up the gutters with a wheelchair easier. While the park doesn’t have regular deep gutters, we still found it took a bit of muscle power to move from the roadway to the paths.

We value having access to a laundry and the Jurien Bay Tourist Park has a guest laundry which, at the time of writing, costs $4 a load for washing ($1 coins only). Dryers are also available and also only work for $1 coins so stock up on coins if you have saved your washing for your stay.

Undercover guest barbecues are also available for use for campers or those staying in the holiday units.

If you fancy camping there is a camp kitchen with microwave, toaster, kettle and a fridge. Accessible bathrooms are also available.

Although the Sandcruiser beach wheelchair is stored at the Jurien Bay Tourist Park, visitors wishing to use it need to contact Jurien Bay CRC on 08 9652 2425 or email office@jurienbaycrc.net.au. We popped into Jurien Bay CRC at 67 Bashford Street, Jurien Bay and filled out the forms to borrow the chair but I recommend booking it in advance to avoid disappointment.

Having a Kia Carnival as our hire car and the access to the beach wheelchair allowed us to explore Sandy Cape which is only a 10 minute drive north of Jurien Bay. It offers a gorgeous stretch of beach with hardly another soul to be seen.

While staying in Jurien Bay we did the Turquoise Safaris Sea Lion tour which we absolutely loved. The boat offered good wheelchair accessibility for Braeden’s wheelchair. You can read about our swim with the sea lions in this review.
