We use the isle chair with airport assistance. To seat him on the plane we use a Stabilo air seat which we provide ourself. This molds to fit my son and gives him the body support he needs. We fly with Virgin and have permission to use it on their planes. We contact special needs every time and check they are aware. My son also is JEJ fed so need to take liquids on board to cover 3 days.

If the stewardess asks any questions, I have a letter saying it is an approved medically necessary flotation device. The airline cushion is held in place with velcro.

Thanks so much Kimberley. I wonder if it depends on the aircraft type? We’ve not used it but some of our readers have told me it affects the rear of the seat. Great to hear.

Just wanted to let you know re the CARES harness. We have one and used it on numerous Qantas and Emirates flights and it did not affect the use of the tray behind. The strap was able to go under the tray, so no problems at all. We normally as let onto the plane first so we can fit it before everyone else boards.
