The Pink Lake (Hutt Lagoon) at Port Gregory is an Insta-famous location along the Coral Coast Highway. In fact, we were told that it was an Instagram post many years ago that made it so popular initially and to this day it brings tourist to the area.
Braeden loves any reason to head off-road so when we saw that a Pink Lake Buggy Tour was available from Port Gregory we just knew we had to book it. The Pink Lake (Hutt Lagoon) can easily be appreciated by driving on the road that runs parallel to the lake but that seemed a little boring when there was the option to do something off the beaten track.

The Pink Lake (Hutt Lagoon) & Pink Lake Buggy Tour
The Pink Lake is located just over one hours’ drive north of Geraldton or 40 minutes south of Kalbarri. There was great excitement in the car when we were driving between Kalbarri and Geraldton and spotted the candy floss coloured lake sitting right beside the road. The pink hue is created due to the presence of carotenoid-producing algae but algae or not, the pink is mesmerising and photogenic.

For Braeden the highlight of visiting the Pink Lake was riding over the sand dunes in the buggy. Pink Lake Buggy tours only use existing tracks for their tours taking great care of the environment.

One of the advantages of the buggy tour was that we could appreciate Pink Lake from an elevated position and from a variety of angles.
Braeden can do a standing transfer so he was able to step up into the buggy for the tour and we left Braeden’s wheelchair in the back of our car while we were out on tour.

Whether you do a tour or just take a drive around the lake, it’s well worth at least a drive by to see the Pink Lake (Hutt Lagoon). If you asked Braeden, he’d say you’d be crazy not to do a tour with Tim from Pink Lake Buggy Tours.
